Summary
The Complete Assaf Warm-Up will change the way you think about dance warm-ups. Expert instructor and dancer, Michele Assaf, has been teaching for over 25 years and has trained dancers from all over the world. This video is a complete warm-up, which combines elements of Modern, Classical, Jazz and Physical Therapy. A proper warm-up should activate the muscles, ligaments and tendons in order to be prepared for the dance without being too tired. It is vital that a warm-up does not over strain the body. This video is designed for intermediate to advanced students, but can be modified for beginners.

This is a fine disc as far as “a” warm-up routine for ballet and modern dance is concerned. You’re shown how to do things – mostly by seeing what the “students” in class are doing; and all the warm-up moves are labeled so that you have a pretty good idea what muscles you’re warming up.
It’s not, however, a “chuckle-fest” to watch. The bongo drums… I wish there was an alternate sound track with “voice” only. But, that’s another thing… Ms. Assaf’s voice isn’t the most pleasant thing to listen to – but for better or worse you WILL hear it. If I were to use the disc a lot, I’d eventually just turn the sound off and follow along.
It’s probably a fine disc for serious young dancers to learn from. It does set down a “routine” that you can draw from as you “work out” or “warm up” all your life. If you’ve older and have had more pleasant experiences doing the same things in life, your patience might be a little too short to make it through the entire thing in good humor.
Either way, if you’re serious about “warming up,” this gets the job done.
